English Lessons
Each 60-minute lesson includes:
- content specifically tailored to the individual's needs
- optional written and reading homework to reinforce lesson content and build English ability
- detailed feedback of written homework provided before the following lesson to maximise effective use of lesson time
- a record of lesson given at the end of each lesson
- the benefits of my 30+ years' teaching knowledge and experience
My core teaching values:
My teaching philosophy is that the more interested and engaged students are in a topic, the better they learn. Therefore, rather than simply spoon-feed students ideas and opinions, I encourage and challenge them to think for themselves. This not only makes lessons more effective, but also helps build students' confidence.
Support outside of lessons:
My lessons are also underpinned by the basic principle that the more students practice reading and writing, the better they will get at them. As well as recommending books to build general English skills, I always set optional written homework at the end of each lesson to reinforce specific content. I ask students to send this to me so I can correct and return it before their next lesson, and this helps maximise actual lesson time.
At the end of each lesson, I give students a lesson record which shows what was covered in the lesson and other content such as new vocabulary, grammar points and corrections, areas to review and so on. In face-to-face lessons this is on A4 paper; in online lessons it takes the form of screenshots.
In summary, I offer full support to students outside of lessons as well as during them, in the form of preparation and homework correction. This is all included in the lesson fee: £60 for in-person lessons, and £45 for online lessons.
